Introduction to Policy & Representation
POLICY is defined as the "course of action adopted by governments of all levels".
LOBBYING can be defined as “seeking to influence politicians and other decision makers”
REPRESENTATION has been defined as “the privilege of having someone speak with authority on your behalf”
Cumbria Chamber acts on behalf of its members and represents their interests, either as individual companies or as a whole membership, at local, regional and national level.
We can do this because we are uniquely placed as a business representative on numerous local and regional committees and partnerships. We have strong ties at the political level and an understanding of all key legislation.
In addition to contributing to national campaigns about red tape and regulation, the Chamber represents the views of the business community on many issues. The Cumbria Chamber represents your business at all levels on issues such as improving transport links within the county, affordable housing, tackling business crime and influencing the Regional Economic Strategy, all of which will drive the future development in the county.
We also act as a business representative on numerous local and regional committees and partnerships.
The Chamber works to maintain its reputation as 'the honest broker' in these matters. The more members communicate with us about the current environment for doing business, the better we are able to lobby on their behalf.
In return we work to keep members informed of how legislation and local planning decisions will affect them. This is done through this website, through Affinity Group meetings, seminars and our magazine, Chamber Voice.
HOW CAN I HAVE MY SAY?
We talk to our members every day, this naturally helps us gauge views on business issues, but you can involve yourself further by contacting info@cumbriachamber.co.uk
