Business Start-Up Support

If you are thinking of starting your own business, then Cumbria Chamber of Commerce is here to help.

GET THE KNOWLEDGE

We’ve secured funding to offer start-up advice and support to those thinking of starting their own businesses in Copeland.  This includes social enterprises as well as the more ‘normal’ commercial businesses.

Through the scheme, we’re able to offer access to a business adviser – you can talk through your business idea and make use of the advisers experience and knowledge.  You’ll also be able to get help developing a business plan which can be used when approaching your bank for a loan.

Business courses are available to equip you with the essential knowledge to start and grow your business.

The course includes:

  • An introduction to self employment, looking at the qualities and characteristics that help make a successful entrepreneur
  • How to calculate your personal survival budget and guidance on business planning
  • Market research, ways to help you establish whether there is a market for your product or service
  • Finance and record keeping
  • Tax and how it is calculated
  • Internet and e-commerce, a guide to setting up a website and selling online

We have two day courses running in Copeland during September.

Support is available to help businesses in their first 3 years of trading – whether they started with help through the scheme or not.

Pick the right mix from a range of flexible support to suit individual needs drawn from a package of options such as workshops, one-to-one advice, events and networking.

For further information or to book your place on the business courses call 0845 226 0040 or email bookings@cumbriachamber.co.uk entering Start-up courses in the subject heading.

This current Intensive Business Start-up programme is part of Solutions for Business funded by the Government and is supported by ERDF, Carlisle City Council, Copeland Borough Council and Cumbria County Council.
